New Life Sciences: Linking Science to Society

The theme of BioVisionAlexandria 2012 Conference was "New Life Sciences: Linking Science to Society" which aimed at addressing the role science can play in achieving a fair, equal and just society, not just through scientific research but also policy adjustment. This publication shows the extensiveness and the depth of topics and issues that discussed during the three days conference covering almost all Life Sciences fields. It includes presentations of invited speakers in form of articles to help -in a way- how new life sciences can help society to reach its full potential.”

Science and Innovation in Egypt

It is not often that a country is faced with the prospect of rebuilding from the ground up. Egypt’s revolution in 2011 – notwithstanding the many and inevitable challenges it presents – has ushered in an era of unprecedented hope and expectation.

The Egypt report assesses the current state of Egypt’s science, technology and innovation (STI) systems, their strengths and weaknesses, as well as the many ideas under consideration and programmes already in place for improving them. It is intended to be an accessible guide for anyone interested in Egypt’s future development at this vital time.

Research Grants Program: 2004 winner Researches

The Research Grants program offered by the CSSP aims to support outstanding young postdoctoral Egyptian researchers who perform cutting edge research and undertake collaborative investigation approaches across the science and technology spectrum, by offering them postdoctoral research grants as well as help them establish connections with Egyptian and international scientists as well as researchers. "2004 Winners Researches" book summarizes and highlights progress of 2004 grants winners to support and promote their researches.

South-South entrepreneurial collaboration in health biotech Paper

In recent decades, developing countries have sought to reduce their reliance on trade with the economically and politically dominant northern, r developed, countries, favoring instead South-South partnerships that synergize strengths and bolster competitiveness. Entrepreneurial firms in developing countries are increasingly aware of the opportunities in one another’s markets, as is evident from the 12.5% i ncrease in the rate of South-South trade each year.

A survey of entrepreneurial collaborations among health biotech firms in developing countries reveals a surprisingly high level of collaboration but a lack of emphasis on new or improved health biotech products and processes.This paper is addressing South-South entrepreneurial collaboration in health in detail.

TWAS-ARO activities

TWAS-ARO (The Academy of Sciences for the Developing world–Arab Regional office) is one of five regional offices established by TWAS to help decentralize the academy’s activities. TWAS-ARO represents all 22 Arab countries. In the following article, Mohamed M.
