The BA Celebrates the Launch of a New Book on Ibn Khaldun in Cooperation with Arab and Spanish Institutions

Alexandria— As part of the BA's celebration marking its fifth anniversary, the BA will hold a festivity on Wednesday, 5 September 2007, in cooperation with Fundacion El Legado Andalusi in Spain, National Council for Culture, Arts, and Heritage in Qatar, and the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), on the occasion of the launch of the book entitled “Ibn Khaldun: the Mediterranean in the 14 Century: the Rise and Fall of Empires”.

The opening ceremony will include addresses by Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of Alexandria, Dr. Jeronimo Paez Lopez., Fundacion El Legado Andalusi in Spain, Dr. Elmonji Bu Sinenna, Director General, ALECSO, and Mr. Mubarak Nassir Alkhalifa, Secretary General, National Council for Culture, Arts, and Heritage in Qatar. The book editing team, namely: Dr. Ishaq Obied, Dr. Hatem El-Tahawy, Dr. Khaled Azab, Resaecher Mohamed El-Seid Hamdy, Dr. Ahmed El-Abady, Scientific Editor will attend the festival, in addition to diplomats, media men, university professors, and Arab intellectuals.

From his side, Dr. Khaled Azab, Director of BA Media Department, stated that the book, which was issued in Granada, tackling both the Islamic and Western civilizations in the Fourteenth Century, was translated at the BA from Spanish to Arabic. Several senior researchers from Egyptian universities participated in the preparation of the book.

He added that the book is a series of historic studies, a journey through time and space, especially during the fourteenth century, reviewing the most important political events and state of affairs at the time of Ibn Khaldun, as well as the political, social, and economic turbulences in the Mediterranean which shaped our modern age. The fourteenth century witnessed the rise and fall of empires, especially after the Crusades periods.

The Festival will start at 17:00 hrs. at the Great Hall, BA Conference Center.
