Alexandria— The BA will organize on Saturday, 16 June a lecture entitled "Libraries in Baghdad During the Islamic Era" by Dr. Hussein Amin, Professor of History, Baghdad University; Visiting Professor, Alexandria University; and Former Secretary General, Union of Arab Historians.

It is worth mentioning that Baghdad was a center of science and knowledge in the golden age of the Islamic State. Baghdad gathered scholars and researchers in its libraries, in which they found all springs of arts and science. Bayt al-Hikma (House of Wisdom) is one of the most renowned libraries in Baghdad in the Abbasid age, and along with all other libraries in Baghdad, the House of Wisdom was destroyed during the Mongol invasion in 1258. Baghdad resembled in its nature the city of Alexandria in the Hellenistic age, in which the Ancient Library of Alexandria played a crucial role in attracting scientists and intellectuals.

The lecture will start at 19:00 hrs. at the BA Auditorium.
