Opening of the “Access to Justice” Workshop at the BA

Alexandria— The BA Arab Reform Forum together with the Arab Society for Reform and Development, the Ministry of State for Administrative Development and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) co-organized a workshop on “Access to Justice: Promotion of Legal Outreach in the Arab World” at the BA on 18-19 March 2009. 
In his opening speech, Dr. Ahmed Darwish, Minister of State for Administrative Development, stated that the Workshop is based on three main principles: access to court, citizenship and good governance. Dr. Mohamed Said El Dakkak, BA General Counsel, pointed out that justice is one of the pillars of good governance as it flourishes only in a society ruled by law.  
The two-day workshop discusses  several themes. It tackles the concept of and right to resort to court, the right to defense and legal support, the obstacles hindering access to justice and their potential solutions, as well as alternatives to conflict resolution, the role of administrative reform and non-governmental organizations, and the impacts  of justice on economic development and poverty eradication.
