Asian and African Cinema at the BA

Alexandria—The BA Arts Center is organizing film screenings from 15 to 20 February 2009 entitled “Asian and African Cinema: Selections from Akira Kurosawa”.
Akira Kurosawa is a Japanese director, producer, scriptwriter, montage artist and painter. Born in 1910 and passed away in 1989, Kurosawa is considered one of the greatest cinematographers in the history of cinema. He is also among very few directors who received all great cinema awards, namely: the Golden Lion for the Best Film for Rashomon from Venice Film Festival 1951; the Silver Bear for the Best Director for The Hidden Fortress from Berlin International Film Festival 1959; the Golden Palm for the Best Film for Kagemusha from Cannes Film Festival; and the Academy Honorary Award (commonly known as Oscar)for his achievements in 1889, among others.
A screening of the following films will take place:
Rashomon, 1950 on Sunday, 15 February 2009
To Live, 1952 on Monday, 16 February 2009
The Seven Samurai , 1954 on Tuesday, 17 February 2009
The Hidden Fortress, 1958 on Thursday, 19 February 2009
Red Beard, 1965 on Friday, 20 February 2009
All film screening will start at 19:00 hrs. at the BA Auditorium.
