Alexandria—The BA is celebrating on Tuesday, 17 February 2009, the launch of a project documenting the life of late Egyptian President Mohamed Anwar El-Sadat including a museum, a website and a culturama Show. The Celebration will be attended by a number of public figures.
Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, said that the project was undertaken under the auspices of HE Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak, Chair of the BA Board of Trustees. Mrs. Gihan El-Sadat gave full support to the project since its inception and donated to the Library a rare collection of Sadat’s personal belongings, in spite of their high personal value.
The project team collected thousands of rare photographs, documents, documentary films as well as other rare unpublished material related to President Sadat. In an aim to have the project as perfect as could be, the BA has cooperated with several other partners such as the Sadat family, Fawzi Abdel Hafez’s family (the Private Secretary of Sadat), Egypt State Information Service, Akhbar Elyoum newspaper, Dar Elhelal and Dar Eltahrir publishing houses in addition to the News Sector in the Egyptian Radio and Television Union (ERTU).
Dr. Serageldin added that Sadat, the Hero of War and Peace, is considered one of the great leaders in modern history. To document his life journey, the BA decided to launch a comprehensive project, encompassing a digital archive on the Internet, a museum and a culturama show, narrating this important era in the history of Egypt and allowing new generations to have a look at the life of a great Egyptian leader.
