Cairo Salon Discusses Islamic Art

In this week’s episode of the “Cairo Salon” TV Show, aired on Channel One every Saturday at 11:30 pm, Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, will discuss Islamic Art.
The guests will be Dr. Raafat Elnabarawy, Professor of Islamic Archeology, and Former Dean of the Faculty of Archeology, Cairo University; Dr. Mokhtar Elkasabany, Advisor to the Secretary- General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities; and Shaymaa Elsayeh, Researcher in the BA Calligraphy Center.
Art, in general, had a significant status in Islamic civilization. Muslims provided the world with an original artistic production, specially depicted in the manufacture of texture, carpets, wood and glass, in addition to producing different kinds of pottery. Muslims were also interested in metals and mastered the making of teapots, weapons and swords, besides excelling in the production of different kinds of jewelry such as earrings, rings and bracelets.
